Visa Adds More Stablecoin Features, Unveiling Avalanche, Stellar Support

Published

Visa has grown its stablecoin settlement infrastructure to support three new tokens and two extra blockchains in its latest crypto push.

Visa has significantly expanded its stablecoin settlement capabilities by adding support for three new stablecoins—PayPal USD (PYUSD), Global Dollar (USDG), and a euro-backed EURC—alongside two additional blockchains, Stellar and Avalanche. This move broadens Visa’s reach to four supported stablecoins and four blockchains, reinforcing its long-term vision of a multi-chain, multi-asset payment infrastructure.

By integrating these new assets, Visa enables businesses to settle transactions in both U.S. dollars and euros through stablecoins. The added support for Stellar and Avalanche enhances speed and efficiency for cross-border transactions, providing alternatives to Ethereum and Solana that offer lower fees and faster finality.

This upgrade reflects Visa’s strategic focus on building infrastructure for global payment flows, particularly in emerging markets where access to traditional banking remains limited. While domestic payment systems in developed countries remain efficient, Visa sees a growing role for stablecoins in powering high-value transfers and cross-border commerce in regions such as Latin America, Africa, and Asia-Pacific.

Visa’s ongoing expansion in the stablecoin space also positions it to support crypto-linked cards and settlement solutions for fintechs, merchants, and banks. With scalable, blockchain-based rails in place, Visa is preparing for a future where digital assets play a more central role in global financial infrastructure—even if retail adoption remains in its early stages.
