U.S. & U.K. Forge Crypto Cooperation Deal to Align Regulation and Boost Innovation

U.S. & U.K. to unveil crypto cooperation deal: stablecoins, aligned rules, shared enforcement & better market access.

The United States and United Kingdom are poised to announce a major cooperation deal focused on digital assets, with an emphasis on stablecoins, regulatory alignment, and stronger market access. Discussions led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.K. Chancellor Rachel Reeves included not just government officials, but also major crypto firms and banks such as Coinbase, Circle, Ripple, Barclays, and Citi, signaling deep industry engagement.

Key aims of the deal are to harmonize rules between U.S. and U.K. regulators, improve enforcement against illicit financial flows, clarify stablecoin oversight, and create clearer channels for U.K. crypto businesses to tap into U.S. capital markets. The move comes amid growing concern that the U.K. may be falling behind the U.S. in attracting listings, innovation, and investment in the digital asset space.

While many details remain under wraps, one of the expected features is enhanced information sharing between relevant agencies (e.g. Financial Crimes Enforcement Network in the U.S. and the Financial Conduct Authority in the U.K.), possibly along with pilot programs or regulatory sandboxes. By balancing innovation and oversight, the deal seeks to signal both countries’ readiness to lead in crypto regulation rather than simply follow.
