Tether Unveils “USAT” — A Domestic Stablecoin Play Under New U.S. Rules

Tether launches USAT, a GENIUS-Act compliant stablecoin for U.S. users—anchored by onshore regulator-friendly issuing and reserves.
Tether is launching a new U.S.-based stablecoin called USAT, engineered to comply with the recently passed GENIUS Act and aimed squarely at American users. The stablecoin will be issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, with reserve custody managed by Cantor Fitzgerald, and is being led by Bo Hines—formerly of the White House crypto advisory council.
USAT aims to offer transparency, full asset backing, and regulatory compliance, contrasting with Tether’s existing USDT product which operates under foreign-issuer status. USAT is expected to roll out by the end of 2025, as Tether pivots to strengthen its presence in the U.S. stablecoin market.
