SEC and Ripple End Years-Long Legal Fight with Joint Dismissal of Appeals

Published

The SEC and Ripple have officially ended their multi-year legal battle, jointly dismissing all remaining appeals.

The long-running legal battle between the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Ripple Labs has officially come to an end. In a joint filing, both parties agreed to dismiss all pending appeals, closing the case that began in December 2020 over allegations that Ripple’s sale of XRP constituted an unregistered securities offering. The dispute saw multiple court victories for Ripple, including a landmark ruling that secondary market sales of XRP did not meet the definition of a securities transaction. With both sides now stepping back, the resolution brings long-sought regulatory clarity for XRP and its holders. Market participants see the dismissal as a pivotal moment for the cryptocurrency industry, potentially influencing future cases involving digital assets. XRP’s price responded with renewed bullish sentiment as traders shift focus from legal uncertainty to adoption and utility.
