Ripple’s Strategic Leap: Acquisition of Hidden Road for $1.25 Breshapes Institutional Crypto Infrastructure
Published
Ripple acquires Hidden Road for $1.25 B, gaining a global prime broker and bolstering RLUSD’s role in institutional crypto finance.
Ripple has announced the acquisition of Hidden Road, a global multi-asset prime broker, in a deal worth approximately $1.25 billion. With Hidden Road clearing over $3 trillion annually for more than 300 institutional clients, this acquisition allows Ripple to take a giant step from payments infrastructure into full-scale institutional finance: clearing, brokerage, custody and lending across both traditional and digital assets.
Ripple plans to leverage its USD-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, as collateral within Hidden Road’s framework, enabling cross-margining between legacy markets and crypto. Hidden Road will also migrate post-trade operations to the XRP Ledger (XRPL), reinforcing Ripple’s broader aim to position its technology stack as the backbone for institutional decentralized finance (DeFi).
For crypto investors, this acquisition signals a maturation of the sector’s plumbing. Rather than retail-facing hype, the narrative is shifting toward infrastructure that supports hedge funds, asset managers and banks. With Ripple now unified with a full-service brokerage, tokenisation, stablecoin utility and settlement rails become more institutional-grade—and that could accelerate capital flows, reduce friction and redefine how digital assets get integrated into global finance.
