Ripple Mint Brings Automated RLUSD Issuance to Institutions

Published

Ripple Mint gives institutions a unified interface and API for minting, redeeming, bridging, and monitoring RLUSD across fiat and blockchain workflows.

Ripple has launched Ripple Mint, a unified platform that allows institutions to access, mint, redeem, and manage the company’s RLUSD stablecoin through either a web interface or programmatic integration.

The service is designed for exchanges, market makers, fintech companies, and other institutional customers that need to incorporate stablecoins into automated trading, payment, and treasury systems.

Existing RLUSD customers can use Ripple Mint now. The platform expands Ripple’s previous interface-based experience with APIs, webhook notifications, lifecycle tracking, and tools for moving RLUSD across supported blockchain networks.

Moving RLUSD Beyond Manual Workflows

Stablecoins are becoming increasingly important in institutional trading, cross-border payments, liquidity management, and corporate treasury operations. These activities often involve high transaction volumes and systems that must operate continuously, making manual minting and redemption processes difficult to scale.

Ripple Mint addresses that problem by giving institutions two ways to manage RLUSD. Operations teams can use a web console for direct control and oversight, while developers can connect Ripple Mint to their existing infrastructure through APIs.

Customers can mint and redeem RLUSD directly from its issuer, bridge the stablecoin across supported chains, monitor funds throughout a transaction, and incorporate those activities into internal systems.

RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, LLC, a trust company chartered by the New York Department of Financial Services. Ripple is positioning that regulated issuance structure as a key part of the product’s appeal to institutions that require formal compliance and operational oversight.

APIs Connect Fiat and Blockchain Transactions

Ripple Mint’s APIs allow customers to initiate redemption workflows and request either fiat settlement or the movement of RLUSD across supported blockchains. Institutions can also query transaction status and retrieve account balances without requiring an employee to manually check the web platform.

Webhook notifications provide real-time updates when important events occur. These include the receipt of fiat currency, processing of a mint request, onchain settlement, and completion of a payout.

Ripple assigns consistent reference IDs across each stage of a transaction. This connects the fiat and blockchain portions of a workflow, giving operations teams a clearer trail for reconciliation, auditing, and troubleshooting.

That visibility is especially important because stablecoin transactions do not exist entirely onchain. An institutional mint can begin with money moving through the banking system, continue through an issuer’s compliance and processing systems, and conclude with tokens delivered to a blockchain address. Redemption runs the same process in reverse.

By linking those stages, Ripple Mint is intended to reduce the spreadsheets, manual status checks, and disconnected records that can otherwise develop around institutional stablecoin activity.

RLUSD Expands Across Multiple Networks

RLUSD was initially issued on the XRP Ledger and Ethereum. Ripple is now anchoring its broader multichain strategy around the XRPL EVM Sidechain, alongside expansion to Base, Optimism, Ink, and Unichain.

The XRPL EVM Sidechain gives developers access to Ethereum-compatible smart contracts and development tools while maintaining a connection to the broader XRP Ledger ecosystem. This can make RLUSD available to decentralized applications that were created for Ethereum-style environments without separating the asset entirely from Ripple’s existing infrastructure.

Broader network availability could give RLUSD access to additional exchanges, decentralized finance protocols, payment applications, and emerging onchain financial services. It also allows institutions to deploy the stablecoin closer to the markets and applications where they need liquidity.

Ripple argues that this expansion can create complementary uses for RLUSD and XRP in areas such as liquidity, settlement, swaps, collateral, and payments. However, wider RLUSD distribution does not guarantee increased XRP demand or price appreciation. The effect will depend on how applications are designed and whether users choose XRP as part of those workflows.

Why Ripple Mint Matters

Ripple Mint is not a new consumer wallet or another stablecoin. It is an institutional access layer intended to make RLUSD easier to operate at scale.

That distinction matters as the stablecoin market becomes more competitive. Issuers are no longer competing only on market capitalization, reserves, or exchange listings. They are also competing on APIs, network coverage, settlement options, compliance, reporting, and how easily a stablecoin can be integrated into an organization’s existing systems.

Ripple already has experience providing blockchain infrastructure to financial institutions. Ripple Mint extends that strategy by packaging RLUSD issuance, redemption, cross-chain movement, and transaction monitoring into a single operational platform.

The product’s long-term significance will depend on adoption. If exchanges, payment companies, and market makers use Ripple Mint to automate meaningful RLUSD volume, it could strengthen the stablecoin’s role in institutional finance. It could also bring additional activity to the XRP Ledger ecosystem as Ripple connects regulated digital dollars with a growing range of blockchain networks.
