Revolut Secures MiCA License in Cyprus — Stablecoin Launch Now Plausible
Published
Revolut earns MiCA license in Cyprus and is now legally able to issue a stablecoin—2026 rollout looks plausible for crypto-native bank.
European fintech giant Revolut has secured a Markets in Crypto Assets (MiCA) license from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC), paving the way for regulated crypto-asset services across all 30 countries in the European Economic Area (EEA). This regulatory green light gives Revolut a passport to expand its digital-asset offerings—set to power its next-generation “Crypto 2.0” platform offering 280+ tokens, staking, and one-to-one stablecoin-to-USD conversion.
The move also signals that Revolut is now positioned to issue its own stablecoin. Legal advisors cite MiCA’s framework as enabling for such an ambition, while cautioning that a full launch would still require additional licencing and white-paper disclosures under the “asset-referenced token” regime. A 2026 rollout is considered plausible if internal and regulatory conditions align.
For crypto investors, this development underscores the growing bridge between mainstream finance and digital finance infrastructure. A stablecoin issued by a 65 million-user fintech could expand usage dramatically—potentially challenging incumbent stablecoin issuers and reshaping competitive dynamics in Europe’s digital-asset marketplace.
