Ondo Finance Tokenized Stocks Platform Wins Regulatory Approval in Abu Dhabi

Published

Ondo Finance secures approval in Abu Dhabi to list tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs on Binance, marking a major step for tokenized equities.

Ondo Finance Receives Regulatory Approval in Abu Dhabi

Ondo Finance has secured a major regulatory milestone after authorities in Abu Dhabi approved its platform for trading tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds. The approval allows Ondo’s tokenized securities to be offered through a regulated venue operated by Binance, expanding access to blockchain-based versions of traditional equities.

The authorization came from the Financial Services Regulatory Authority within the Abu Dhabi Global Market, one of the region’s most prominent financial regulatory hubs. The decision marks the first time the regulator has approved trading of tokenized securities under its framework, signaling growing institutional acceptance of blockchain-based financial products.

Tokenized Versions of Major U.S. Stocks

Under the new approval, eligible investors outside the United States will be able to trade tokenized versions of several major U.S. companies and exchange-traded funds. The lineup includes digital representations of companies such as Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Nvidia, Meta and Tesla, as well as the Invesco QQQ ETF.

These instruments are structured as equity-linked notes that track the value of the underlying shares. Instead of issuing direct tokenized shares, the platform holds the real securities through custodial arrangements while the blockchain tokens represent exposure to those assets.

The model is designed to combine the familiarity of traditional equities with the flexibility of blockchain settlement and digital asset infrastructure.

How Tokenized Equities Work

Tokenized stocks convert ownership exposure to a real-world asset into a digital token recorded on a blockchain. Each token represents economic exposure to the underlying stock or fund.

This structure allows assets that normally trade on traditional exchanges during limited hours to potentially be traded around the clock through digital asset platforms. It can also enable fractional ownership, meaning investors may gain exposure to expensive stocks with smaller capital allocations.

Blockchain settlement may also reduce clearing and settlement delays typically seen in traditional markets, where trades can take multiple business days to finalize.

A Major Step for Real-World Assets in Crypto

The approval reflects a broader trend toward the tokenization of real-world assets. Financial institutions, crypto exchanges and fintech companies are increasingly exploring ways to bring traditional financial instruments such as stocks, bonds and funds onto blockchain infrastructure.

Since launching its tokenized asset products, Ondo Finance has processed billions of dollars in trading activity and accumulated hundreds of millions of dollars in total value locked across its ecosystem.

The company has also expanded regulatory approvals in multiple jurisdictions as it works to position tokenized securities as a bridge between traditional finance and decentralized markets.

Abu Dhabi Emerging as a Digital Asset Hub

The decision also highlights Abu Dhabi’s growing role as a global center for digital asset regulation and innovation. The Abu Dhabi Global Market has built a reputation for developing clear regulatory frameworks for crypto and blockchain companies while maintaining institutional standards for financial oversight.

By approving tokenized equities within a regulated trading venue, the region is positioning itself as one of the first jurisdictions to formally integrate blockchain-based securities into its financial ecosystem.

For the crypto industry, the approval represents another step toward merging traditional capital markets with blockchain infrastructure, potentially opening the door for broader global access to tokenized financial assets in the years ahead.
