NYSE to Launch 24/7 Blockchain-Powered Tokenized Stock and ETF Trading

Published

The NYSE is building a blockchain-based platform for around-the-clock trading and settlement of tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs.

The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) is preparing to launch a blockchain-based trading platform that will enable 24/7 trading and real-time settlement of tokenized U.S. stocks and exchange-traded funds (ETFs). The move marks one of the most significant evolutions in traditional market infrastructure — blending Wall Street’s regulatory rigor with blockchain’s always-on, instant-settlement architecture.

Developed by the NYSE’s parent company, Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the system will allow investors to trade fractionalized, blockchain-recorded versions of stocks and ETFs around the clock, seven days a week. Unlike the traditional equity markets, which are limited to weekday trading hours and rely on multi-day settlement cycles, this platform will execute trades in real time, with transactions recorded and verified directly on-chain.

The new venue will also support tokenized representations of existing securities as well as digital-native assets issued directly on blockchain networks. Each tokenized share will retain full economic and governance rights — including dividends and voting power — making them functionally identical to their traditional counterparts. By enabling settlement via stablecoins and other blockchain-based payment rails, investors will be able to move capital instantly without relying on traditional banking hours or intermediaries.

This initiative represents a paradigm shift in how global capital markets could operate — eliminating time-zone restrictions, reducing counterparty risk, and opening the door for fractional trading and retail inclusion. For institutions, it offers a compliance-friendly bridge to blockchain settlement; for investors, it signals the arrival of a world where traditional and digital assets trade seamlessly, continuously, and transparently on the same rails.

If successful, the NYSE’s tokenized trading platform could redefine how liquidity, accessibility, and efficiency function in modern finance — positioning the exchange at the forefront of a new era in capital markets built on blockchain technology.
