Hyperliquid’s New “Outcome Trading” Push Aims to Bring Prediction Markets On-Chain

Published

Hyperliquid is proposing “outcome trading” via its HIP-4 upgrade to enable fully collateralized prediction markets and bounded contract trading.

Hyperliquid is preparing to expand its trading ecosystem with a proposal aimed at bringing prediction markets fully on-chain. The initiative, known as outcome trading, is designed to allow traders to speculate on specific events or defined price outcomes using contracts that settle within predetermined ranges.

At the core of the proposal is a new infrastructure upgrade that would support fully collateralized outcome contracts. Unlike leveraged perpetual futures, these products would not rely on liquidations or margin calls. Instead, traders commit collateral upfront, and contracts resolve at fixed values depending on the outcome of an event or condition. This structure is intended to reduce systemic risk while making event-driven trading more intuitive for participants.

The outcome trading model also opens the door to instruments that resemble bounded options. Traders could express views on whether an asset will land within or outside a specific range, without the complexity of traditional options greeks or exposure to cascading liquidations. In practice, this blurs the line between derivatives and prediction markets while keeping settlement logic transparent and deterministic.

Initially, these markets are expected to be denominated in Hyperliquid’s native USD-pegged stablecoin, allowing for clean accounting and predictable settlement. The proposal has already been tested in controlled environments, with broader deployment contingent on performance, user feedback, and final governance approval. Over time, the framework could evolve into a permissionless system where new outcome markets are deployed by users rather than curated centrally.

The timing reflects a broader surge in interest around prediction markets across crypto, particularly for political, macroeconomic, and event-based trading. While regulatory scrutiny remains a consideration for the sector, Hyperliquid’s approach emphasizes full collateralization and clearly defined payoff structures, potentially positioning it as a lower-risk alternative to existing models.

If implemented, outcome trading would mark another step in Hyperliquid’s strategy of building advanced financial primitives directly into its core protocol. Beyond expanding product diversity, the proposal signals an effort to capture traders looking for expressiveness without leverage, and for markets that prioritize clarity, capital efficiency, and on-chain settlement over complexity.
