CME to Go 24/7: Crypto Futures & Options Trading Round-the-Clock in Early 2026

CME is launching 24/7 crypto futures & options trading in early 2026 dropping weekend gaps & aligning regulated markets with nonstop crypto
CME Group has announced plans to launch 24/7 trading for cryptocurrency futures and options, aiming for a rollout in early 2026 (subject to regulatory approval). Under the new model, products like Bitcoin and Ether derivatives will be accessible at any hour via CME Globex, with the exception of brief weekly maintenance windows.
Currently, CME’s crypto derivatives market pauses trading on weekends and outside business hours—creating so-called “CME gaps” when spot markets remain active. The switch to continuous trading is designed to eliminate those dislocations, allowing institutions to manage risk and react to news in real time. While trades executed on weekends or holidays would still settle on the next business day, the continuous access alone could bring a game-changing edge for professional traders.
For crypto investors, this move signals deeper institutional integration. 24/7 access at a regulated venue lighting the same runway as decentralized platforms may help attract capital that previously avoided time-constrained trading windows. It’s a major step toward bridging traditional finance and continuous crypto markets in a way that reduces arbitrage, improves price discovery, and levels the playing field for institutional participants.
