CFTC Names Former Federal Prosecutor David Miller as Enforcement Chief Under New Chair
CFTC Chair Michael Selig appoints ex-federal prosecutor David Miller to lead enforcement as the agency scales up oversight, including crypto markets.
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission has appointed former federal prosecutor David Miller to lead its enforcement division, a key move as the agency strengthens oversight amid growing interest in digital assets and prediction markets.
Miller, a seasoned trial lawyer with extensive experience in securities and commodities fraud cases, steps into the role under newly installed CFTC Chair Michael Selig. The leadership change comes as the agency seeks to rebuild its enforcement capacity following years of staff departures.
Before joining the CFTC, Miller worked in private practice representing clients in high-profile financial and digital asset matters. His background includes service as a federal prosecutor on the securities and commodities fraud task force in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, where he handled complex financial cases.
Miller’s appointment signals the CFTC’s intent to take a more assertive stance on market integrity issues, including fraud, manipulation and abuse across traditional and emerging markets. With heightened scrutiny on cryptocurrency and other novel instruments, his prosecutorial experience is expected to bolster enforcement efforts and support regulatory clarity.
Chairman Selig, who took the helm of the agency late last year, has emphasized restoring institutional strength and ensuring robust oversight. Under Miller’s leadership, the enforcement division aims to tackle wrongdoing while supporting innovation and fair market practices.
