BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin ETP Opens UK Retail Door, Marking a Major Crypto Milestone

BlackRock lists its first UK Bitcoin ETP on the LSE, enabling retail investors to access spot Bitcoin via regulated brokerage channels.
BlackRock has launched its iShares Bitcoin ETP (IB1T) on the London Stock Exchange, marking its first Bitcoin-linked product available to UK retail investors. The physically backed ETP holds Bitcoin 1:1, allowing investors to gain direct price exposure through traditional brokerage platforms without managing digital wallets.
The move follows the UK’s gradual softening toward regulated crypto investment products. By bringing a retail-accessible Bitcoin vehicle to a major European exchange, BlackRock is signaling that mainstream demand is here—and that institutional infrastructure can now support it.
For investors, the ETP represents a gateway into crypto within a regulated framework, combining institutional-grade custody and compliance with the ease of a stock purchase. The broader implication is clear: Bitcoin exposure is no longer niche. With asset-management giants entering the space, the line between traditional portfolios and digital assets continues to blur.
