MetaMask Issues Its First Stablecoin, mUSD, via Stripe’s Bridge & M0 Infrastructure By Matt Brienen Published: 2025-08-22T00:06:37+00:00 MetaMask is entering the stablecoin arena with the introduction of **MetaMask USD (mUSD)**—a native U.S.-dollar–pegged stablecoin issued directly through its wallet platform. This marks a pivotal shift in how digital dollars can be integrated and accessed by users in the Web3 ecosystem. The new stablecoin leverages **Bridge**, Stripe’s recently acquired stablecoin issuance platform, which manages regulatory compliance, reserve backing, and issuance infrastructure. It also harnesses the decentralized framework of **M0**, designed to support interoperable, composable, and transparent stablecoin issuance. At launch, **mUSD will be available on both the Ethereum network and Linea**, a Layer-2 blockchain developed by MetaMask’s parent company, ConsenSys, with cross-chain expansion plans underway. Bridge and M0 bring complementary strengths to the table: Bridge ensures licensing, reserve management, and regulatory compliance, while M0 offers a modular infrastructure built for interoperability and developer control. According to M0’s co-founder and CEO, Luca Prosperi, this integration empowers platforms like MetaMask to “control the digital dollar stack” and deliver superior end-user experiences more rapidly than before. MetaMask’s stablecoin is positioned to be deeply embedded into its wallet ecosystem, streamlining use cases such as on-ramps, swaps, transfers, and cross-chain operations. In the future, real-world merchant payments through the MetaMask Card may also be supported. This launch places MetaMask among a growing set of Web3-first wallets developing native stablecoin solutions—highlighting a broader trend toward “wallet-native, cross-chain stablecoins,” which aim to simplify digital dollar access while skipping traditional complexities like separate issuance and compliance frameworks.
